Mounting a TV on the wall has become a staple for home entertainment setups. To ensure proper mounting and avoid damaging the wall, you will want to follow these steps from our experienced installers.

  1. Determine where you want to mount the TV on your wall. Make sure it’s not in the way of swinging doors or windows. If there is a window in the room, it’s best to place the TV along the same wall instead of opposite it, to avoid a glare on the TV.
  2. Test the view of the location and height of installation using a TV-shaped cutout or painter’s tape and paper. This will help you adjust the location before drilling into the wall and give you an idea of how the TV will look in that spot, once it’s installed.
  3. Once you have the location chosen, you will need to use the stud finder to locate the studs in the wall and mark them with a pencil. For a secure installation, it’s important to only secure your TV mount into studs. Drywall alone will not withstand the weight of a TV.
  4. To ensure the installation is level, place the level along the top of the TV-shaped cutout. Using a pencil, mark pilot holes where you plan to drill.
  5. Position the wall mount and check the level again. Adjust and mark the location on the wall with a pencil again if needed.
  6. Drill pilot holes into the marked studs using the proper drill bit.
  7. Using a screwdriver or drill with the appropriate bit, attach the mount to the wall.
  8. Gently place the TV face down on a towel or Styrofoam packaging. Attach the mounting plate directly to the back of the TV.
  9. With help from someone else, lift the TV while making sure the mounting plate aligns with the wall mount and make sure the TV is securely attached before letting go.
  10. For an aesthetically pleasing setup, zip tie or velcro all the cords together and use cord covers in the same color as your wall to hide all of the cables.

If you’d like to enjoy your new TV without the trouble of mounting it yourself, contact Geeks on Site for hassle-free, professional TV wall mounting service for your home or business.

HOW DO YOU SET UP A HOME THEATER SYSTEM? https://geeksonsite.com/knowledge-base/entertainment-installation/home-theater-installation/how-do-you-set-up-a-home-theater-system/ Fri, 25 Oct 2024 17:47:22 +0000 https://geeksonsite.com/?post_type=epkb_post_type_1&p=118674 The post HOW DO YOU SET UP A HOME THEATER SYSTEM? appeared first on Geeks on Site.

When it’s time to set up your home theater system, be prepared for a multi-step process that will call for a few decisions to be made by you. The goal of the installation is to successfully connect all of your system’s audio and visual components to the sources that provide their content. If this isn’t done properly, the investment you have made in all of your home theater’s components will be in vain as the system may not work as expected.

Most home theater setups include the following components, and will require some other tools and parts.
• Smart TV
• Internet connection (usually via a WiFi network)
• AV Surround Sound Receiver
• Speakers
• Subwoofer (for 5.1 surround sound)
• Blu-ray or DVD player
• Media streamer (Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, etc.)
• Connection cables
• Speaker wire and wire stripper

All of the video and audio components work through the AV Surround Sound Receiver so this will need to be switched on for the system to work properly. Connect the receiver to your Smart TV after your TV has been connected to your Wi-Fi network.

To connect your Blu-ray or DVD Player, you may use HDMI connections on your receiver which will receive audio and visual signals from those devices – attach the HDMI output from the player to the receiver and from the receiver to the TV. If your receiver has HDMI pass-through, you will likely need to make additional analog or digital audio (optical or coaxial) connections between the player and the receiver.

Next, make sure that your media streamer is connected to the Internet. Then connect it to your TV (or to your receiver if you choose) via the HDMI connection outlet.

After this, put your speakers and subwoofer in place (not up against any walls) and connect your speakers to your receiver. Make sure that they are connected to the correct channels and have a proper connection to the polarity (positive and negative/red and black). Finally, connect your subwoofer’s line output to the receiver.

Do all these connections sound confusing? You’re not alone. Over the years, hundreds of people have trusted the professional technicians at Geeks on Site to set up and maintain their home theaters to make sure this is done quickly, correctly, and hassle-free.

Once you have decided to get into gaming, you have a choice to make before purchasing equipment: will you buy a console-based gaming system and games or a PC-based gaming system and games? Your choice of which gaming setup to use will largely depend on the type of games you want to play and if it’s for your child, you may also consider their age.

Some games, such as fighting games and those meant to be controlled by a gamepad, are designed to work best with consoles. Almost all other games work better using a PC, which is one reason why this gaming platform is now the market leader in gaming. Although PC gaming systems are typically more expensive than console systems, they offer a large pool of games, have the most powerful graphics, and provide the ability to play with multiple players.

It’s also not unusual for gaming enthusiasts to have both PC and console gaming systems so they can play on equipment that best suits each of their game selections. Whichever gaming system you choose – and especially if you choose to have both – Geeks on Site can provide you with expert gaming setup services.

In addition to setting up your PC-based gaming system, our experienced Geeks on Site technicians can also set up all of the most popular gaming systems, including:
• PS3
• Nintendo Switch
• PS4
• Xbox
• Sony PS4
• Leapfrog LeapTV

Geeks on Site offers a 7-day warranty on our service when setting up your gaming system whether you go with a console-based or a PC-based system. Contact us to discuss the best gaming setup based on your interests.

For PC gaming systems, you will need:
• Fast Internet – Uninterrupted, high-speed Internet access is critical for gamers.
• Dedicated space, desk, and comfortable chair – You will play your best when you are comfortable in a space set up specifically for your gaming system as the system will not be portable and you wouldn’t want to be moving it around frequently.
• Gaming PC – These can vary quite a bit in price depending on your budget but the cost can go up to thousands of dollars. Whatever your budget, you should have a dedicated graphics card, a processor that can handle every type of game, and a cooling system.
• Gaming LED Monitor(s) – Depending on your budget, you can select from several panel technologies (VA, IPS, TN) and speeds starting at around 1080p 60hz, but all should have low input lag. This is the time the monitor requires to produce an image.
• Gaming Webcam – Many gamers use this to record and share their gaming experience. The best ones produce sharp images and have a high-resolution that facilitates game playing in low light.
• Gaming Controller – Choosing the right one will be key to your overall gaming experience. These are available in wired and wireless formats. Most gamers choose wired controllers that have long USB cables.
• Gaming Headset – These should fit your head comfortably, provide high-quality sound that is balanced and without feedback, and have a driver size of 45 mm or higher.
• Gaming Mouse – These have advanced optical laser sensors and are customizable in numerous ways, including for speed and sensitivity.

For console gaming systems, you will need the same high-quality Internet access and connection, plus a TV and sound system to pair it with. Geeks on Site technicians are available to set up all of the most popular gaming systems, including:
• PS3 Wi-Fi
• PS4 Gaming
• Xbox Gaming
• Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
• Sony PS4 Pro
• Corsair One
• Leapfrog LeapTV

The experienced techs at Geeks on Site are available to consult with you about everything you need for a gaming setup. We have been providing quality IT support to homes and businesses nationwide for years and offer a 7-day warranty on our services. A computer virus, a type of malware, is a program that is intended to spread from one system to another via a contaminated program, file, or document. A computer virus is the digital equivalent of the flu, spreading from one host to another, often undetected and often replicating or altering itself.

While some computer viruses are immediately active, others remain dormant for some time, working slowly to cause destruction over time. A computer virus may be used as a way to frustrate the computer owner, simply for fun by the creator. However, others are created for malicious reasons such as stealing personal information or for financial gain.

Individuals who write viruses are always coming up with new ways to fool their prospects into downloading the virus. And as our lives become more connected via technology, it may be even easier to trick us into downloading it. Victims often fall prey to an email attachment, a social media post that requires a download or sign-in for access, or a music file that contains a virus.

Computer viruses work in phases during their lifecycle. Once a virus accesses its target’s computer, it may sit dormant while waiting to be triggered by the user. Triggering of the virus happens when the computer owner runs the program or file the virus is located within. Not all viruses have a dormant phase; some run immediately. As soon as the virus starts propagating or multiplying or replicating itself, it has moved to a new phase. The virus will copy itself and transfer to other programs or machines on the network. Each infected program will have a clone of the original virus which will then also go into a propagation phase.

The triggering phase of the virus’s life cycle is when the virus completes its intended function. This is often when the virus destroys your computer, steals your personal information, or begins spamming your contacts.

Infected machines often require software to remove the virus from the infected programs. Depending on the virus type, new hardware may also be needed to repair the damage, as some viruses will attack system critical files on the computer.

Are you worried about becoming the victim of a computer virus? Or, has your computer already been infected? Call Geeks on Site at 1-888-799-4335 anytime 24/7. We’re here to help!

TV mounting is a professional service that involves securely attaching a television to a wall, using specialized mounts and hardware.

The VESA (Video Electronics Standards Association) interface is the distance between the four mounting holes on the back of a TV (shown as ‘horizontal distance x vertical distance’). This interface is commonly used to mount screens on wall mounts or stands.

The VESA is a mounting interface standard used for attaching monitors and TVs to wall mounts or stands. Televisions use several different VESA pattern sizes. The most common are VESA 200×200 for TVs up to 32 inches, VESA 400×400 for TVs up to 60 inches, and VESA 600×400 for bigger-screen TVs.

VESA and display manufacturers use a variety of mounting interface standards and have a similarly wide range of attachments. Not all monitors use the same pattern and not all arms are the same. While standardized, VESA mounting is NOT universal, rather sub-categorized.

Yes, TV mounts often come with weight limitations and size restrictions. Read the instruction manual to ensure you are adhering to these guidelines.

As long as the TV wall mount is bolted into wall studs for a drywall installation, or secure holes into a brick wall, the TV should be securely attached to the wall. If you place the screws directly into the surface, the TV will not be very secure.

There are different types of TV wall mounts which include fixed, tilting, swiveling and full-motion mounts.

When choosing your TV mount, one style is not any better than the other. It depends on your room layout, where you plan to place the TV, and where you will be sitting.

TV mounts can typically be repositioned easily after installation, depending on the TV mount and its adjustability features.

While some people may have the skills and tools to mount a TV themselves, hiring a professional is recommended for ensuring proper installation. Contact Geeks On Site to have a professional set up your TV.

If you haven’t upgraded any of your gaming PC’s hardware or components, it should last around two to four years. After that, you’ll likely start to see a significant drop in performance.

A core gaming setup would consist of a gaming chair, a gaming desk, a keyboard and mouse, one or more monitors, and the PC itself.

The average price would typically fall between $1,000 to $4,000.

To keep up with new releases, 16GB of RAM would be the minimum you are looking at. If you want to have more freedom to run other applications in the background such as YouTube, live-streams or group-chats, then 32GB will give you that ability.

With many games now coming with bigger environments, the storage required to install these games has inevitably increased. 500GB would be your starting point with 1TB being the most common option.

When trying to deliver higher FPS (frames per second), a faster graphics card is required along with more RAM.

You can transfer data between your gaming consoles as long as they are the same manufacturer, such as PlayStation to PlayStation and Xbox to Xbox.

For data transfers on the PlayStation, make sure that your source console is on. On your destination console, go to the home screen and select Settings > System > System Software. Select Data Transfer > Continue and follow the on-screen instructions.

Data transfers for Xbox users, on the Xbox you want to copy from, press the Xbox button on the controller to open the guide. Go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Backup & transfer > Network transfer and check the Allow network transfer box.

To maintain your gaming PC, you should regularly dust off components, ensure proper airflow, update drivers, and run disk cleanup.

For a good home theater setup, you should look for a receiver with enough inputs for all your sources. These can include a Blu- ray player, a game console, and a media streamer with enough power to drive all your speakers.

To fully optimize your home theater setup, you should look for a good room calibration system that tailors your systems performance to your space.

Soundbars are better than your current TV speakers for improving surround effects to some degree. If you want truly immersive sound, then these are no comparison to a proper surround sound speaker system.

A soundbar is a compact speaker system that provides audio from a single source, while a surround sound system uses multiple speakers positioned around the room for an immersive audio experience.

For the best experience, place the soundbar at ear level if possible. If this is not an option, on top of your TV stand, right below the center of your TV is the next location.

A 2.1 system setup has one speaker usually placed on either side of your TV. A 5.1 surround sound setup makes use of five speakers placed around the room to create an immersive sound experience.

To experience the best sounds, such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, you will need a TV with an eARC HDMI port in order to connect to your sound system.

Dolby Atmos is an audio technology that creates a three-dimensional sound experience. Some high end TV’s now come equipped with Dolby Atmos technology to boost their built-in sound systems. These can be used with additional wireless speakers without the need for a soundbar or an AV receiver.

The best place generally is about a third of the way from the wall into the room.

Wired speakers typically offer better audio quality and reliability compared to wireless speakers due to their stable connection and lack of interference.
