The scan to remove your PC’s virus may take several hours. It is recommended to perform a basic virus cleanup if you suspect malicious software on your system, encounter strong interference by advertisements, or have detected new malicious software. Once the scan is complete, you can restart your computer.

Unfortunately, viruses may install themselves in several different parts of your system. If you do not completely eliminate the program, the virus may reinstall itself at the next system reboot. In some cases, viruses may have invaded the registry of your Windows system.

Malware refers to suspicious software designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to computer systems or data.

There are four main types of malware. These are computer viruses, worms, trojan horses and ransomware/ spyware.

Both terms are used often and are interchangeable because they have overlap. A virus is a specific type of malware, but malware is a general term that also includes types of malicious software that lack the virus’s ability to self-replicate.

There are four common symptoms of spyware which include, difficulty logging into secure websites, random advertisements that pop up on your computer, unusual slowness of your system, and unusual instability of your system, such as crashing more often.

Antiviruses are necessary if you’re on a Mac or Windows device, though both come with some level of built-in virus protection. For total protection, including endpoint protection and response, blocking malware and potentially unwanted programs, it’s best to install a third-party antivirus software.

To prevent your devices getting infected, you should use a reputable antivirus software, update the software regularly, and avoid clicking on suspicious links or downloading unknown files.

It is recommended to update your antivirus software regularly, ideally daily or as soon as updates are available, to stay protected.
